Empowered Wednesday: That's Sew Tiff

Welcome back to another Empowered Wednesday Bookworms!! Today I've got a creator who makes the most adorable and fastest selling items in Etsy it seems! I've had the pleasure to get to know Tiff over this past year, and she is honestly such a sweet, generous and kind woman, and I can't wait to share more of what makes her the creator for That's Sew Tiff!

Q: Can you tell our readers about yourself and what you do?
A: Hi! I’m Tiffany! I’m a maker, specifically making mug rugs, which are cloth quilted coasters.

Q: How did you first get into creating mug rugs and when did you decide to take the leap and go for it?
A: I started sewing about 5 years ago. I was on Pinterest and kept seeing all these baby quilts. I became obsessed and wanted to start making some. I still make little quilts and blankets whenever one of my friends has a baby. I started making mug rugs with my scraps and gifting them to friends. Those friends ultimately convinced me these were awesome and I need to sell them. The rest is mug rug history! Lol

Q: Who or what inspired you to do what you are doing now?
A: I get a lot of inspiration from online. And even more encouragement from everyone to keep creating. All the social media tags inspire me to keep creating. And all the designers designing new fabrics make me want to work with it all!

Q: What would be your ideal working environment?
A: I really like the environment I’ve created for myself. I have a room with all my books and fabric in it. Lots of room to work!

Q: How would you describe your style with creating your mug rugs?
A: I try to put fabric together that really compliments each other. I’m a bit of a minimalist and try not to overwhelm in any aspect. My style has evolved and changed over the years. I’ve been loving all the small scale florals lately!

Q: What is one thing you wish you knew starting out with creating or something you could have told your past self?
A: Don’t undervalue your work!!

Q: What do you do in your spare time?
A: I read A LOT. And I spend time with my family. I have two boys, 6 and 2.

Q: How do you motivate yourself to keep the shop going?
A: I love going to the tagged section on my Instagram. Seeing all the awesome pictures of people using mug rugs really motivates me to get more out there.

Q: What do you find the most frustrating and/or challenging aspect of creating?
sew lauren conrad GIF by The HillsA: Not being able to produce more! It bums me out to hear that people missed out on something they really wanted. I hate frustrating them. It sucks to go through the checkout process only to find out something was snatched out of your cart. *Not even lying this happens EVERY time Tiff puts up her product to her Etsy Shop*

Q: How much time do you spend creating mug rugs and is it a hobby or job?
A: It’s really like a job. I try to devote time every day to it. Some days I’m obsessed and will work 16 hours. And some days I can work only 20 minutes.

Q: Can you name some of your favourite shops and explain why they’re your favourite?
A: Book Beau! I’ve loved seeing that boss babe climb to the top! I know it wasn’t always easy but still they continue to grind and put that positivity out there. Just an all around great role model.

Q: What would be your go to meal, outing and Starbucks/Tim Horton’s Drink?
A: I’ve been obsessed with nitro coffee from Starbucks. That’s my go to drink from there.

Q: Kiss, Kill and Marry:
(Uncle Jesse from Full House, Jake Ryan from Sixteen Candles, and Jess Mariano from Gilmore Girls)
A: kiss Jake Ryan, kill Jess Mariano, and marry Jesse

(Peyton Sawyer from One Tree Hill, Erin Lindsay from Chicago PD, and Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games)
A: kiss Katniss, kill Erin, and marry Peyton

Q: If you were stuck on an Island what would be the three things you would want with you?
A: This questions stress me out! Do I pick practical or impractical? Is this like a genie wish? Will it somehow back fire?!  Lol I definitely need chapstick.

Q: What sort of advice can you give to anyone out there that’s thinking about starting a shop?
A: Don’t get discouraged by slow and steady. Some shops/ accounts blow up over night. Some slowly build up their following. Both ways you should feel proud, because you’re doing it! This is something you should enjoy, and if you need a break from it, don’t feel guilty for taking one.
