Empowered Wednesday: Book Biff

Welcome back to another Empowered Wednesday! Today I have featured someone who has created their very own shop making and selling designs on Etsy, who honestly is incredibly sweet! So let's get on with this feature!

Q: Can you tell our readers about yourself and what you do?
A: My name is Breanne and when I’m not being a full time college student or working my part time with First Graders, I am sewing up a storm creating Book Protectors, AKA Book Biff’s. I am 23 years old and married to a United States Marine. Besides books, I absolutely adore plants! My house currently looks like a jungle which is fine by me.

Q: How did you first get into creating and when did you decide to take the leap and go for it?
not going well emma stone GIFA: I first started sewing August of 2016! I had never sewn before or even touched a sewing machine but I had this idea, told my grandma about it and she taught me how to sew. I created Book Biff, September of 2016 and have been sewing ever since.

Q: Who or what inspired you to do what you are doing now?
A: I feel like it is almost impossible to talk about Book Sleeves/Protectors without mentioning the OG, Benita from Book Beau. She definitely inspired me along with my own natural drive. At the time, I was a stay at home Military Wife and I wanted to contribute to the household besides cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping etc. I have always loved creating& making things with my hands so it just completely went hand in hand.

Q: What would be your ideal working environment?
A: My ideal working environment is actually my Office that I have in my home. My husband and I were fortunate enough to move from a 1 bedroom, 780sq. ft apartment to a 2 bedroom, 1020sq. ft condo. I was able to turn the second bedroom into my own personal office and I have turned it into an environment that I want to create in and be in.

Q: How would you describe your style with creating Biffs?
A: My style would be nit picky. I know that’s a funny word to use lol, but I have an eye for the little things and I think, at least hope that shows in the Biff’s that I make!

Q: What do you do in your spare time?
A: In my spare time, I love to just veg out on the couch lol. Who doesn’t, right? I also like to explore new coffee shops and cafés around San Diego, which is where I live. I always post my little adventures over on my personal account @breanneo_

Q: What is one thing you wish you knew starting out with your shop or something you could have told your past self?
A: Something I wish I would have known before diving into an Etsy shop is how much effort you have to put into not the shop itself but the social media aspect of it. We live in a time where social media is very apparent in everyone’s lives. It is awesome and harmful at the same time. I did not think going into it, that I would have to devote as much time to the Social Media portion of this as equally if not more as the time it takes to physically construct Biff’s.

Q: How do you motivate yourself to keep the shop going?
A: I motivate myself by making new goals every couple of month’s or just yearly goals in general. That has really helped me to push myself and my shop further whether it is reaching a certain number of followers on Instagram or releasing a new product!

Q: What do you find the most frustrating and/or challenging aspect of creating and having a shop?
A: The most challenging aspect of having my own Etsy shop is time management and social media! Between going to school full-time, working a part-time job& being a wife (which my married gals know come with it’s own challenges lol) having enough time to be able to give this shop your complete all can be difficult at times.

Q: How much time do you spend creating biffs and is it a hobby or job?
A: I probably spend around 20 hours a week making and creating Biff’s. Because my version of creating has resulted into an Etsy Shop, Book Biff is definitely a job, opposed to a hobby. Don’t get me wrong though, I would not trade this for anything! I am very grateful that I am able to create something with my two hands and people dig it.

Q: Can you name some of your favourite bloggers/authors/shops and explain why they’re your favourite?
A: One of my favorite authors is Danielle Rollins AKA @vegarollins she is the author of my favorite series, The Mercilles! I was actually fortunate enough to run a Giveaway with her which was just SUCH a fangirl moment for me lol. One of my favorite bloggers is Laura over at @whatshotblog I was so lucky in having her as one of my international reps for a period of time!

Q: What would be your go to meal, outing and Starbucks/Tim Horton’s Drink?
A: My go-to meal is French Fries. I know what you’re thinking but yes, FF’s is most definitely a meal lol. My favorite restaurant is Cheesecake Factory though, if you go you must try their Louisiana Chicken Pasta! During the warmer months, Starbucks’ Pink Drink is my go to! But if it’s chilly enough, my favorite is their Soy Chai Tea Latte. The Soy isn’t for anything specific other than I’m Lactose intolerant lol.

Q: Kiss, Kill and Marry:
(Uncle Jesse from Full House, Jake Ryan from Sixteen Candles, and Jess Mariano from Gilmore Girls)
(Peyton Sawyer from One Tree Hill, Erin Lindsay from Chicago PD, and Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games)
A: Kiss Uncle jesse, Kill Erin Lindsay & Marry Katniss Everdeen

Q: If you were stuck on an Island what would be the three things you would want with you?
Chapstick FOR SURE! My husband and a good bottle of wine. Priorities lol

Q: What sort of advice can you give to anyone out there that’s thinking about starting a shop?
A: Just go for it. Don’t think too much into it. Over-thinking can kill someone’s ambition and that’s not okay. Take that leap. Try something new. You don’t want to have any regrets in life so just go for it.
